The forecast was an overcast morning with temperatures in
the low 70’s and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. The best news,
however, was having the wind blowing from SE, which meant another day with tale
wind and coasting – it was a blast again and I did the first 19mi in less than
an hour. It was on US 54, much used by trucks. This part of Kansas is known as
the Flint Hills and is rolling not flat.
We reached the gas station at
Cassoday, self-proclaimed 'Prairie chicken capital of the world'. We were just
in time for lunch serving and a self made chocolate cake with whipped cream.
After our leisurely meal, we kept on riding towards Newton and our final
destination Hesston. The wind was still on our favor and I was so tremendously
grateful for it. We finally arrived in Hesston at 3PM, which is a perfect
timing to relax and rest sustainably for tomorrow.

Pierre, you are flying over the flat portion of you journey. You will look back soon and remember the nice tail wind and flat portion of you odyssey across the continent. You appear to be in great spirit, keep it up and keep posting your reports. I enjoy them every day.
