Stage 20 - Eureka KS, 105mi (169km)

This morning at 7AM we had a fantastic breakfast made by Janice. Although at this time in the morning I am not a big eater, today I was a hungry though. Afterwards Norma and I headed off to Eureka and my fifth map sections begins. The route today zigzagged alternately west and north across the grid pattern of Kansas’ roads.

Picture of the day!
The terrain was rolling rather than flat, the hills still being substantial enough to make me drop down a few gears to get up them. However, we were very fortunate today, riding with a tale wind blowing SE, which gave us a boost on 90% of today’s stage.

Maurice

Tyler & Codi

Today we crossed three East bounders, Tyler and Codi from San Francisco and a view mile behind Maurice from the UK. It is always a good opportunity to share experiences as well as to stop for a couple of minutes before taking on the ride again.

The last 19mi towards Eureka took us only 70 minutes – it was a blast and great coasting! So we reached Eureka in good time to check in to a motel, shower, change, and head over to Pizza Hut for Chicken Alfredo, since cyclists need food for fuel and eat enormous quantities…
