Having breakfast with caddle men in Bendavis |
Today my aim was riding towards Everton,
117mi, and it turned out to be a challenge as I underestimated the elevation
profile. Norma has been joying me for the third day already. However, after the
first forty minutes or so, we were on Route 38 all the way to Marshfield. This
was a beautiful road for cycling, gently undulating and with virtually no
traffic. Occasionally there was a steep little hill to remind me of recent
days. Marshfield meant halftime for today's ride, and although the steep hills
were behind the continuous up and downhill felt harder the longer the day
lasted. After a stop in Marshfield we continued our ride towards Everton. And
this turned out to be on the cycling front much harder than the first half of
today. The hills continued on and on, up and down, relentless, though they were
not so steep as a few days. Before aiming the last 7mi towards Everton we went on
a Supermarket since no meals are available at the place we are staying tonight.
Running Spring Farm Hunting Lodge |
I caught a Hummingbird |
It is the Running SpringFarm Hunting Preserve and Inn, outside Everton. In the off season
for hunting, owner Bill allows cyclists to stay in the comfortable and spacious
air-conditioned lodge for $25 a night provided they use their own sleeping bags
and not his sheets. There are two bedrooms and a bunkroom, a full
kitchen, shower, wifi, and television. We are the only persons there tonight.
