Stage 14 - Murphysboro IL, 90mi (145km)

The Ohio River flows southwest to join the Mississippi. I am cycling across the wedge of land that separates the two rivers and forms the southern tip of Illinois. The 90mi (145km) to Murphysboro, the end of my third map section and the start of my fourth, today had plenty of stiff climbs and swooping downhills. The roads were generally smooth and all were free of rumble strips. Traffic was light. The weather was good in the morning hours and at about 11AM it changed rapidly and believe it or not, it started raining heavily for about an hour. The roads dried quickly and the remaining 3 hours of riding were enough to get dry again. The good thing of such showery weather though is that it was not too hot.

In the afternoon, the route went through the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. It was a good day.
