Today’s ride included two 10mi climb, the first one up to
Grangeville and the second one up to the white bird pass. I followed the Lochsa
River this morning for another 25mi and stopped in Kooskia for breakfast where
Rich, a retired public school teacher, joined me.
Then I took of towards
Grangeville, which in the beginning was very gentle and then started to ascent
continuously.
Both climbs today reminded me a lot to some rides I did in the past in Switzerland, the first one
a rather classic pass route and then the second one felt like climbing “Pragel
Pass”.
The landscape of Idaho changed rapidly into a highland meadow scenery....
....and the overlook from the crest of white bird pass was so magnificent.
The
downhill lead via the old 95 hwy route and re-joined the new one after White
Bird again. The last 20mi lead me into a wonderful valley along the Salmon river until I reached Riggins, also called the white water
capital.
